Arch Enemy: Angela Gossow (vocals); Michael Amott, Christopher Amott (guitars); Sharlee D'Angelo (bass guitar); Daniel Erlandsson (drums). As the first band of its kind to feature a female vocalist, Arch Enemy is a bona fide pioneer. The German-born Angela Gossow replaced original bellower-from-hell Johan Liiva in 2001, and not only does Gossow deliver a brutal death-metal vocal sound that rivals Chuck Schuldiner (Death) and Dani Filth (Cradle Of Filth), but the once-unknown metal goddess has lunged Arch Enemy into metal's big leagues. DOOMSDAY MACHINE carries the torch of memorable, riff-laden metal established on Arch Enemy's previous albums, a sound fueled by the guitar work of brothers Chris and Michael Amott (the latter formerly of Carcass). "Mechanic God Creation" beats with a classic metal heart, intensified by modern and extreme metal touches. "Slaves Of Yesterday" and "Machtkampf" brandish ripping solos and keen note choice, while "I Am Legend/Out For Blood" grooves with old-school thrash abandon. In the competitive realm of melodic death metal, Arch Enemy continues to evolve and remain vital.

13. Roses On My Grave
14. Scars (from Live & Murderous In Chicago)" (UK Bonus Track)

========
Papa Roach’s fourth release is proof positive that the band has not only put the pseudo-rap/rock days behind them, but firmly established them as a relevant rock act with the energy, song writing talents, and singing chops to be one of the premiere mainstream rock bands in the United States. The Paramour Sessions, named after the Paramour Mansion, builds upon the excellent Getting Away with Murder and continues the bands tradition of releasing better and better albums with each release.

NAIL WITHIN - NAIL WITHIN (2002)

04. Bleed Forever
05. Under The Spell
06. Elastic
07. Mental Coffin
08. My Wallow
09. King Obscenity
10. Impure
=======
Hailing from violence ravaged Israel, NAIL WITHIN play thrash metal with the raw intensity of the genre's pioneers tempered by the cold precision of more contemporary bands. Their superior song writing and musicianship mark them as a band destined to leave their stamp throughout the worldwide underground. Musically they are vehement, yet precise, in a way that harkens not only to 80s stalwarts like TESTAMENT and EXODUS, but to modern death thrashers like GOD FORBID or even SHADOW. Their vocalist is blessed with leather vocal chords. His voice lends the band flavors of the 80s pre-death Teutonic thrash wave originated by oldschool masters like SODOM, ASSASSIN, KREATOR and DESTRUCTION. I'm having a hard time imagining how any fan of violent metal could go wrong with this CD.

Chimaira - This Present Darkness (2000)

01. This Present Darkness
02. Painting the White to Grey
03. Divination
04. Sphere
05. Lend a Hand
=======
This album is intense as well as musically well put together. The guitar riffs are awsome as well as the drumming. If you like the sound of 16th notes played on the bass drum as well as it following the guitar riff patterns then Chimaira is for you. If someone says that they are boring and dull sounding then dont listen to them. Also if they say that they sound like Slipknot and those other bands dont listen to them. Listen to Chimaira for yourself and you will understand why people rate them so high.

Back when the world was ruled by primitive nu-metal gorillas barking dysfunctional rhymes over recycled rock riffs, Deftones set themselves apart with a wild experimental streak that saw the group incorporating influences as diverse as the Cure, Ornette Coleman, and Aphex Twin. Produced by Bob Erzin (Pink Floyd, Jane's Addiction), the Sacramento band's fifth full-length release, Saturday Night Wrist, features the kind of envelope-pushing fans have come to expect, shifting between gloomy ballads ("Xerces," "Beware") and apocalyptic rockers ("Rapture," "Rats! Rats! Rats!") that in an instant allow singer Chino Moreno to take his dynamic voice from a whisper to a scream with help from guest vocalists such as System of a Down's Serj Tankian and Giant Drag's Annie Hardy.

As the title of this disc suggests Reveille belts out rap-metal/rap-core with a bad attitude. Lyricist/vocalist Drew Simollardes is perpetually pissed-off, cursing out the world around him with spit-fire foul mouthed diatribes that would cause Eminem to shudder. Bleed the Sky is all about loud guitars and permutations of pentatonic riffs that have kept hard rockers in ecstasy since Black Sabbath botched a few simple blues licks and changed the face of rock music. Guitarists Steve Miloszweski and Greg Sullivan steer the ship, often riffing in unison amidst layers of distortion, though the Middle Eastern themes they weave into the title track offer a much needed change of pace. "Look at Me Now" gives Carl Randolph a chance to shine above the fray with slapping bass grooves that allow for breathing room before Reveille 's relentless brick wall of sound kicks back in. For those who seek melody, check out "Down to None," which boasts a cheerful chord progression and a funky arrangement comprised solely of flute samples and drum loops. Bleed the Sky is an album that will please genre fans without fail.

The End - Elementary (2007)

01. Dangerous
02. The Never Ever Aftermath
03. Animals
04. The Moth and I
05. Throwing Stones
06. My Abyss
07. Awake!
08. A Fell Wind
09. In Distress
======
The End was a band that really took us all by suprise at Decoy back in 2004. They crafted highly technical and instantly addictive metal in the vein of the Dillinger Escape Plan, but somehow you didn't feel at all pretentious for liking The End. So now after nearly 3 long years of waiting for their follow up to Within Dividia, they manage to create an even more addictive and more accessible album, that's sure to please old fans and draw them even more new ones. Elementary is punishing in it's intensity, but also features more clean and melodic vocals than ever before. If you combine the tech metal prowess of DEP, the spacey melodicism of Cave In, and nu metal riffage and growl of American Head Charge, you sorta get the picture.

You could describe Reveille as a mix of Rage Against the Machine and Deftones, with the singer's (Drew Simollardes) voice sounding like Zach de la Rocha and the guitars (Greg Sullivan, Steve Miloszewski) sounding like the style of metal Deftones use. However, the way they mix the two different styles of rap/metal, in my opinion, is unbelievable.

At last! After three years (this album is going to be released in February), MNEMIC release one more masterpiece. This time, its title is one small word and nothing weird like their debut album "Mechanical Spin Phenomena" (2003). So, after their first two successful albums, MNEMIC deliver one more album that shows how should "modern" Metal sound like! Enjoy...
MNEMIC (which stands for Mainly Neurotic Energy Modifying Instant Creation) is one of Denmark’s finest acts. Formed in 2002, they have up to now shared the stage with bands such as DARKANE, MYSTIC PROPHECY, DISBELIEF, MACHINE HEAD and DEATH ANGEL. This is their third full-length album (all three albums have been released through Nuclear Blast) and their first one with their new singer Guillaume Bideau.
MNEMIC’s music is a bit hard to categorize and since I hate stupid tags I won’t even bother trying to name what they play, I will just try to describe it. The members themselves have described their music as "future fusion metal". I don’t want to say if I agree or disagree with this name. I will just speak about my opinion on this band. First of all, whoever has listened to some stuff this band has released will find some similarities with the gods (hell yeah, I mean FEAR FACTORY)! Modern Metal enriched with some electro stuff that even though it is based on the Nu Metal/Hardcore/Metalcore scene, it also manages to avoid the "classic" shit and move its sound a step further every fucking time these guys release an album! MNEMIC is one of the few bands - that were formed after 2000 - that have made such a huge impact on me as a listener. "Passenger" is conceptually based upon the philosophy of existentialism. I guess I was right when I said that the best name for their music is "psychotic"! Anyway, even if this band sounds modern, they are definitely a heavy band that kicks major ass and can prove that anytime, in the studio or on stage! The only thing that’s for sure is that their music is modern (some may even call it fashionable), they belong to Nuclear Blast and have up to now been promoted well. I don’t want to sound "too much", but MNEMIC definitely rule the "modern" Metal scene! At least until MACHINE HEAD release their new album!
All in all, "Passenger" is an album that is worth every single penny you will spend to obtain it. Don’t tell me you want me to comment on the production! You’ve got to be kidding! The production kills! A bit weaker than "Mechanical Spin Phenomena" (2003), in my opinion, but still a fucking heavy album! Go get it right now!

Emerging from The Prostitution, The Power Plays and The Politicsof everyday life in Germany´s Capitol City of Berlin, comes thenext breed of heavy hitters to enter the cookie cutter MetalStomping Ground we have all come to love AND hate - and their nameis FAREWELL TO WORDS.
What this 6 piece delivers musically, is an Intellectual andsometimes brutal mixture of everything good that you can find inEmo, Screamo, New School Hardcore, Doom Metal and yes - thedreaded Metal Core as well - but always adding a new twist (orthree), producing well thought out and carefully arranged songstructures - without losing the intensity of the message they arepotraying.
Lyrically FAREWELL TO WORDS has really made a supreme effort tonot only have good vocal lines but also to write Intelligent andthought provoking lyrics that most American bands would be proudof. From the Opening Track on their forthcoming debut Ep TEAR DOWNTHIS WALL - "Allurement Of The Void", to the mosh-pit floor filler"Blue Turned To Scarlet Eyes" - to the 9 minute long Doom inspired"The Empty Stare" - it´s very clear that these five guys and onelady are aspiring to be more than just another good band to comeout of Berlin...
Comparisons to FAREWELL TO WORDS are many and sometimes strange -like an Amalgam of WALLS OF JERICHO meets BOY SETS FIRE meetsEVANESCENCE meets ... hmmm, Pretty strange indeed, and not allthat correct in the eyes of FAREWELL TO WORDS - they are who theyare, and wouldn´t copy or change their style for anyone. So youfill in the blanks and File them under whatever Label you like.
Since forming in early 2005, of members of recently disbandedBerlin based bands, and after the departure of original FemaleSinger Monique, and founding Guitarist Simon (WAR FROM A HARLOTSMOUTH), it´s been a start and stop transformation that recentlyended with the addition of Jessie - FAREWELL TO WORDS new Femaleon the Mic and Claus on Guitars.
Although they have not played as many shows as most bands, theyare definitely no strangers to the Stage - having gigged with thelikes of HEAVEN SHALL BURN, DEADLOCK, COHEED AND CAMBRIA,ILLDISPOSED, 3 INCHES OF BLOOD, HIMSA, MAROON, WATERDOWN, NEAREA,AS WE FIGHT to name only a few, as well as mini tours in Germanyand Poland.
FAREWELL TO WORDS have recently found a home with German UnderdogLabel BASTARDIZED RECORDINGS and will release their long awaiteddebut Ep TEAR DOWN THIS WALL on January 26, 2007.
New EP from Farewell To Words. Enjoy!

09. Fix
10. Wisconsin Death Trip
11. The Trance Is The Motion
======
A genre-bending sonic onslaught, this disc is not for the faint-hearted. Static-X skillfully blend angry staccato guitar, dark metallic noise, and mutating synthesizer washes to construct an ominous (though occasionally humorous) wall of sound. Lead vocalist Wayne Static's high-energy delivery alternates from whisper to roar on tracks such as "Bled for Days" and "I Am," and he often uses his voice as a potent rhythmic sound effect, as on "Push It" and "Sweat of the Bud." Tony Campos's distorted bass riffs and drummer Ken Jay's confident beats add a human feel to the mechanical rhythms, adroitly creating the tight grooves of "Otsegolation" and "Fix," as well as the rigid swing in "Stem." Wayne Static and Koichi Fukuda skillfully combine guitars and keyboards on "The Trance Is the Motion" to produce crashing waves of sound, while their programming on "December" results in a more subdued piece to close the album.

Stone Sour: Corey Taylor (vocals). Before joining Slipknot, guitarist Jim Root and vocalist Corey Taylor fronted Stone Sour, an alt-metal act with melodic sensibilities. The success of Slipknot inspired Root and Taylor to reform their original outfit, and the band's self-titled debut proved a success. Stone Sour's sound is reminiscent of Slipknot's, yet is distinctive enough to stand on its own merits. COME WHAT(EVER) MAY, the group's sophomore effort, pushes Stone Sour's sound a bit further than its predecessor. While the album's sonic attack is still unremittingly heavy, with thunderous drums and distortion-saturated riffs, there's also a keen sense of accessibility that foregrounds melody and eschews thrash in favor of flat-out hard rock. These elements, combined with Taylor's throaty voice, place Stone Sour a cut above your average post-grunge metal outfit, and COME WHAT(EVER) MAY hints that the group may be poised for a mainstream breakthrough.

A rare case in which a band actually gets better with time, this California hard rock quintet seems to have finally grown into its skin on its fifth album. Casting off the dated slap-bass funk and pointless nu-metal angst of its early years (well, mostly), Light Grenades is not only a worthwhile follow-up to 2003's A Crow Left of the Murder--the expansive disc many fans consider Incubus's best--but shows improvements all around. Singer Brandon Boyd has learned to temper the words he plucks out of the thesaurus with genuine heartbreak, while the rest of the group proves it can do a lot more than offer up nonstop grooves.

Often compared to Poison, Tuff played a similar brand of catchy pop metal -- although at times much darker. They had the pretty-boy good looks that were so popular in the glam years, but just arrived too late on the scene to make much of a commercial dent. Formed in Phoenix, Arizona; the band, which consisted of Jim Gillette (vocals), Jorge DeSaint (guitar), Todd Chase (bass) and Michael Lean (drums), decided to relocate to Hollywood and released a four song EP. Shortly after it's release Gillette departed the band for a solo career (and to later form Nitro) while Bret Michaels look-a-like Stevie Rachelle took over on the microphone. Tuff toured steadily for three years before finally landing a major label-recording contract, however their timing was very bad. Just as their first single, "I Hate Kissing You Goodbye", was roaring up the MTV charts, a band called Nirvana was breaking out of Seattle and would change the face of music forever. Tuff became one of the forgotten bands among the grunge movement, and was promptly dropped by Atlantic records. By 1993 both Chase and Lean had left the group to be replaced by Danny Wilder and Jimi Lord respectively. They toured for a short time before Wilder walked away and Jamie Fonte was brought in for the last version of Tuff. Fist First (an album that later became Religious Fix when three new tracks were added) would be the band's last studio effort and in 1995 Tuff called it a day. Rachelle continued on with a solo career and playing in bands such as Motley Priest. By 2001 a revamped Tuff emerged and made waves with the tongue-in-cheek rap metal parody "American Hair Band" which appeared on The History Of Tuff. Tuff continues to tour sporadically to this day, with Rachelle remaining the focal point and leader.

Just because the gothed-out jersey boys in My Chemical Romance can now fill arenas doesn't mean their hearts aren't still in the mildewed basements where they got their start playing DIY hardcore shows. As this live set shows, My Chem remain a punk band, and their flashes of reckless, claws-bared greatness tend to happen outside the studio, in front of the fans. Life on the Murder Scene, which also includes two DVDs collecting video diaries and performance footage, captures more than a few of those flashes, whether it's the way they barrel through "Give 'Em Hell, Kid" at breakneck speed without once checking the rearview mirror, or the way singer Gerard Way ad-libs, Gordon Gano-style, "I hope you know this is gonna go down on your permanent rrrrrreeeeeeeeeeecord" during "You Know What They Do to Guys Like Us in Prison." Way's voice is in top form, even when he's shrieking (because, seriously, even shrieking can be out of tune), and Life on the Murder Scene pulls all the right guns from My Chem's arsenal of songs. As live albums go, this one is A-O-fucking-K.

04. It's About Time
05. Relapse
06. Anxiety 101
07. Alaskan Thunderfuck
08. It's So Easy
09. Cut in Half
=======
'The Last Dance' is quite possibly the best album that 40 Below Summer has ever put out, which is quite ironic considering it is potentially their swan song album. While it's great to see a band that is going on indefinate hiatus release an album of all new material as opposed to some sort of typical "Greatest Hits" album, or "Rarities and B-sides", they don't have enough of their own sound to leave a lasting impression.

Album opener 'New Age Slaves" come in with some good doses of aggression, mixed in with some cool melodies, but comes off sounding like a little too much like a cross between Ill Nino and Mudvayne. Vocalist Max Illidge can definitely scream his ass off, and the layered growls are a nice addition to the band's overall sound. And while his cleans are good as well, he sounds a little too much like Chad Gray (Mudvayne) for his own good.

"It's About Time" and "It's So Easy" have that sort of 'southern rock' riff going on, and musically bring to mind Jason Jones era Drowning Pool, and even SOiL to a degree, while other songs like "Tell Me Now", "Relapse", and the albums closing track "Cut In Half" slow things down considerably. Unfortunately, on these slower tracks the comparisons come back with a vengeance, as "Relapse" immediately brings to mind Mudvayne's "World So Cold", and "Cut In Half" actually sounds at times like some of the more recent material from Nu Metal maintstays Disturbed, mixed in with a bit of Breaking Benjamin.

"Anxiety 101" is probably the albums best track, with a pretty sick guitar groove and a catchy as hell chorus that will stick in your head after even just one listen. This is also the one song where 40 Below Summer doesn't sound exactly like any band other than themselves, and that is definitely a good thing.

With the death of the Nu Metal genre (excepting a few mainstays), 40 Below Summer quite possibly would have ended up breaking up anyway, due to nothing more than their previous choice of musical direction becoming stale and ultimately unmarketable. Add to that the fact that they were never a huge name in the scene to begin with, and it's almost guaranteed they wouldn't have lasted without a complete revamping of their sound and style. And while the new album stylistically is not too far removed from the trappings of Nu Metal, it has enough of an overall rock feel to it to save it from being specifically classified as such.

Thanks to a bit of a guiding hand from Dino Cazares, guitarist from labelmate Fear Factory, who in addition to being a major influence also invited them to open their California show with Coal Chamber, Spineshank have burst forth with an impressive debut that blends high intensity metal with an electronic edge. Although comparisons to the largely groundbreaking sound of the aforementioned Fear Factory are inevitable, Strictly Diesel finds this youthful four-piece moving in a more melodic groove than most bands following this path, giving them more of an emotional edge, but never finding them lacking intensity and heaviness.

Revelation Theory: Richluzzi, Matt McCloskey (vocals); Julien Jorgensen (guitars); Dave Eagoglia (drums). New York's Revelation Theory cultivates a blockbuster sound, full of pounding drums and shredding guitars, that harks back to early 1990s Soundgarden. The four-piece leaves nothing to chance on its debut full-length release. The sledgehammer-like album-opener, "Slowburn," is a full-on aural assault, with Rich Luzzi's passionate vocals taking pride of place in the churning mix, while even the relatively sedate "Selfish and Cold" captures a mood of brooding menace in its measured, calculating tempos and searing chorus.

The idea to get Hip Hop tracks covered by Metal or Hardcore bands is not new, not by a few years. The other way around it already had been realised and co operations between Metal and Hip Hop acts are something more ordinary nowadays. The list of these collaborations is endless and a very important impulse had definitely been the soundtrack of "Judgement Night" (1993), which clearly shadowed the plot of the movie. Similar projects like "Loud Rocks" (1999) and "Take A Bite Outta Rhyme" (2000) also enthused the fans, so it is not surprising that now a similar project has been launched. Instead of Metal bands we now have Hardcore formations inducing new life and lots of heaviness into legendary Hip Hop songs. And even it should already be old fashioned to finance recordings like this, it still is entertaining. This compilation contains everything from well distinguishable versions close to the original to wildly belted out tracks. Cult songs like "Express Yourself", "Mama Said Knock You Out", "The World Is Yours" and "New Jack Hustler" should be known to many open minded music listeners also in the original, newly interpreted a few tracks still have some surprises in store.
Baffling, too, with which ease each band approached the not really known material and put Hip Hop tracks onto a comparably brutal level as if it was the easiest thing one could do. I cannot filter out single tracks as every interpretation has its very own appeal and there are no flaws. Soundwise there also is nothing left to be desired, so every open minded Metal freak should get this disc. What stands against cool rhymes with fat guitars? Hip Hop goes Hardcore, that's it!

=======
The New Jersey-based Latin metal sextet Ill Nino includes members Cristian Machado (vocals), Dave Chavarri (drums), Marc Rizzo (guitars), Jardel Paisante (guitars), Lazaro Pina (bass), and Roger Vasquez (percussion). Most of its members are of South American descent, resulting in a type of music that combines crunchy heavy metal with Latin rhythms and lyrics that alternate between English and Spanish. The idea of Ill Nino began when former Pro Pain member Chavarri was touring as an interim member of Max Cavalerra's Soulfly. Once his tour of duty ended and he returned home, he immediately phoned his friends Rizzo and Machado with the idea of forming an original band (to quote Chavarri, "The idea is to be as heavy as possible and as melodic as possible — with a Latin twist"), with the other members enlisting shortly thereafter. The new group enjoyed exposure via the New York metal college radio station WSOU and began to gig heavily, opening for the likes of Kittie, Soulfly, Snapcase, plus a co-headlining set at the March Metal Meltdown festival in New Jersey. Soon after, the sextet signed to Roadrunner Records, issuing Ill Nino's debut recording, Revolution/Revolucion in July of 2001. Two years touring to support the record followed before the reappeared in the record stores with 2003's Confession. The live DVD Live from the Eye of the Storm followed a year later with a new album, One Nation Underground, landing in 2005.

After splitting apart back in late 2003, Drew and Greg reunited several months ago and began writing songs again. The lyrical focus revolves and evolves around religious terrorism, oppression, morality, and the human psyche. Drummer, Scott Wilson, and bassist, Steve Hart, have joined the project to complete the group. Genuflect continues to write and will be releasing their first full length album in early 2007. During the writing process, they will be performing a few select shows in the New England area. Stay tuned for more updates and information. The time has come for revelation... Prey for a Prayer. INFO:
=======
On their fourth CD the Boston based metalcore band Diecast has another new lineup. New for this album are drummer Dennis Pavla and bassist Brad Horion. Internal Revolution has a nice mix of galloping thrash riffs and screaming vocals contrasted with glossy hard rock and melodic vocals. It's by the numbers metalcore, but Diecast executes it very well. Vocalist Paul Stoddard has an excellent singing voice with good range. So much of the melodic singing in metalcore is really weak, but in this case it's very strong. Stoddard's harsh vocals are also good and are angry and intense without being irritating.
Diecast aren't breaking any new ground here, but if you're a fan of well done metalcore, this is a worthwhile CD.
